Jordan Bean, Producing Artistic Director
I grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, where I stayed to get my degree in Public Relations & Theater Performance at Marshall University. New York is the only place I've lived outside of my home town! I moved to NYC to pursue a career in acting but quickly realized that it wasn't quite the path for me. I now work in production as a director, stage manager and producer and I love it (I like being the boss - like Bey). It took me until mid-college to figure out that Theater was the field I was most interested in. Other considered paths include meteorology, marine biology and directing for film. I still say that if I suddenly couldn't do theater anymore, I'd study deep sea fish. They're basically aliens, which is awesome.
My love of activism started in college when I founded and served as President of a student group called VOX (Latin for "Voice"). We promoted equality in our community and were very successful, holding around 20 events on campus in only one year and winning 2 awards from the Student Activities Committee: Student Leadership and Community Service Organization of the Year. I also spent that year working with and advocating for Planned Parenthood as their Public Policy intern, so as you can see, I'm very invested in advocacy. I want to take everything I learned from that experience, paired with my PR background, and put it in to this company. I love managing and producing and equate both to a big puzzle. Puzzles are fun!
I've worked behind the scenes at the 4th Street Theater, SoHo Playhouse, Gene Frankel Theatre, Manhattan Rep and more. I'm also a writer; I directed and produced my original play, Since I've Been Here, in two theater festivals last year. During the day I work in administration and marketing. I've worked for The Public Theater, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Savannah Summer Theatre Institute and Tony Award-winning actress Sarah Jones.
Some fun facts about me:
- I love animals and want to own one of each please.
- I am fiercely feminist.
- Beyonce and Amy Poehler are my role models.
- I have a deep love of and appreciation for Appalachia.
- I have a borderline obsession with the BioShock game series (there's a tattoo on my left hip to prove it).
- I have never encountered a potato I didn't enjoy eating.
- I'm engaged to our producer, Patrick (cute right?).
See you at the show!
